A little bit about me...
Hello and thanks for visiting my classroom website! I've been fortunate to be a part of educating children for 19 years and have spent fourteen years here, at Shelburne Community School. This is such a dynamic place to teach and learn and I feel extremely blessed to be a part of this wonderful community!
Some quick facts about me:
- I have a beautiful family! My husband is also an elementary teacher in a neighboring town. My two children attend SCS and it's always fun to see them in the hallways.
- I'm an avid reader. I love to spend any extra free time reading, especially in my summer months while I can completely get lost in a book!
- Yoga is a very important part of my daily life. I practice frequently throughout the day and will also encourage children to participate in whole class yoga asanas. I find that children love yoga and like the challenge that the poses offer but more importantly, it provides children a time to breathe and become grounded.
- I love to knit! Recently, I knitted a mama chicken and chicks for my niece. It was super cute!
- In the summer months, gardening is my hobby. I love the challenge of growing different fruits and vegetables for my family.
- We have a few pets...two Goldendoodles, Barkley Muffin and Sir Louie Snuggs. They are the best dogs and keep us on our toes! We also have a Holland Lop bunny named, Henry Chester. He is litter pan trained so he free ranges in our home. And lastly, we have 9 chickens. You can often find me outside chatting with my "girls." They love to follow me around the yard hoping that I'll offer them a new snack! Their favorite snack is raspberries from the garden.
Recently, I completed a certification course in Positive Education and I am excited to continue to make children's happiness a strong focus while engaging in our curriculum content. Positive Education can be defined as, "... an approach to education that blends academic learning with character & well-being. Preparing students with life skills such as: grit, optimism, resilience, growth mindset, engagement, and mindfulness amongst others. Positive education is based on the science of well-being and happiness."
